This lesson takes students through short story analysis and creation. Students read and analyze "The Devil and Tom Walker" and a modern version of the Faustus tale in an episode of Futurama (which students love!) and then create their own short story and publish it in a "storybook" format. The lesson is structured to develop understanding of the author's bias, plot, characters, and allegorical meaning so that all can be incorporated into the student writing.
Common Core Standards addressed include
