This project is meant to correspond with reading the novel The Diary of Anne Frank. Generally, the Holocaust seems very distant and not relatable for students (especially in middle school!). The intent of this assignment is to give them a more personal connection to the history surrounding the novel by attaching them to real victims or survivors from the Holocaust.
Each student is assigned a victim/survivor. Each day in class, teacher presents one person-- just their general biography. Each day, the students assigned that person will write a journal entry from that person's perspective. At the end of the novel, teacher will present what happened to all these people and students will write a reflective piece on the experience.
All information comes from the Holocaust Museum website. Power Point with victim/survivor information for teacher presentation also available in store!
