This download includes an investigation activity to introduce the discriminant, guided notes and a practice exercise.
The goal of this investigation activity is for students to make observations about the the value of the discriminant and the number and type of solutions of three different quadratic equations.
This activity also asks students to make observations about the number and type of solutions for each quadratic equation and its graph.
Students will make observations and comparisons and summarize their findings.
Students must know how to use the quadratic formula and should be familiar with parabolas. They should also know how to complete a table of values to graph the quadratic function.
