"The Disease Chronicles" was used in my classroom as a quarter project. The students knew to expect this each quarter- and they were to pick a disease that affected the body systems covered during that quarter. (EX: second quarter we covered the muscular and nervous systems, and special senses. They were to pick a disease that affects one of those systems.)
This is a great tool for studying states of disease as you are studying normal system functions. It also helps students conduct scientific research and look at/interpret statistics. This project builds in skills for professional presentations as things like word pronunciation and thorough understanding (identified by asking question(s)) of topic are graded.
