Color Me By Words To Know- Students practice the words to know of the week.
Roll a Spelling Word- This is a spelling activity that you will also need dice. They will roll to see what word to write.
Vocab Flash Cards- Students practice their understanding of the vocabulary words. They draw a picture of each word to help them know what each word means.
Self-Correct Poem- Students practice the steps of self-correcting.
Using Exclamations Writing- Students practice writing with explanations points in writing.
Word Team Up- Students practice the phonics/spelling words of the week by pairing up chunks to make words. This is a cut and paste activity.
I’m an Artist Writing & Art- This is a craft/art/writing activity. Students make their own art, and write about why they are an artist.
Don’t Take Me Literally Sheet- This is a sheet to practice idioms.
The Dot Tri-Fold- Print these sheets front to back. Students fold it like a brochure. Fill it out about the week’s selection.
Journal My Art Project- This is a fun project that can take place of homework which infuses art and writing.
Spelling Practice- Students read, trace, write, and rainbow write the spelling words of the week.
Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
This is addressed through the opinion piece they do on what makes them an artist.
Use end punctuation for sentences.
This is addressed during the exclamation activity. Where they practice writing exclamation points.
Use conventional spelling for words with common spelling patterns and for frequently occurring irregular words.
Spell untaught words phonetically, drawing on phonemic awareness and spelling conventions.
Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
These three standards are addressed in; Roll a Spelling Word, Spelling Practice, word team-up, and Color Me By Words to Know.
Use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
This is addressed in the idiom activity.
Ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson.
Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events.
These standards are addressed in the Tri-Fold.
Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary.
This is addressed in the Self Correct Poem.
