The Duhbuhyou (W) Family Story Element mini flip chart is a fun anticipatory set before modeling and teaching story elements to your students.
Students will color, cut out, and paste together their story element hands. A small amount of glue will be placed at the bottom of the palm only to create a flip chart. Or, you can use one fastner/bracket at the bottom of the hands to create a flip chart. You can add a popsicle stick or small ruler to hands.
You can add a little spice to the lesson by singing:
I've got the who, what, when, where, how in my hands song (to the tune of He's Got the Whole World in His Hands)
Where is Thumpkin, pointer, index, ring finger, and pinky. As you name each finger, stop and discuss the role of each finger/story element.
Where is Thumpkin..........Thumpkin = Who/Character
I switch up the songs depending upon my students.
Students can use their mini flip chart to retell a story orally or write a summary.
