Play this game with your students to help them learn to decode nonsense words!
Preparation: Print on cardstock, laminate and cut.
Play: Students take turns. Each child draws a card and tries to read the nonsense word. If they can, they keep the card. If they can’t, they put the card at the bottom of the pile. If a child draws a robin, that child must return all of his/her cards to the bottom of the pile. The winner is the player with the most cards at the end of the game.
Consider letting all students keep their cards, whether they needed help decoding the word or if they could read it on their own.
Once your students have learned to play, use this game as an independent center.
Blank cards are included for you to include your own words.
