Product Description
The purpose of this activity is to engage your students by having them consider the earth as if it were flat. It’s not so important that students get a “right” answer as it is that they think and respond from a different perspective.

Included in this product is:
-Teacher Tips Handout (2-pages)
-15- “The Earth is Flat!” Task Cards (8-pages)
-1- “The Earth is Flat!” Answer Template Page (1-page)
-1- “The Earth is Flat” Answer Example (1-page)

On each task card are directions and a question from an alien from Mars. The question will reference a scientific topic in regards to the earth being flat (not round).

An example is:
Title: Seasons
Alien Question: Earth Inhabitant, If it’s true that the earth is flat, explain to me if you still have seasons such as summer, fall, winter, and spring. It would seem to me that you would just have one season- but I’m not the sharpest alien around either. Thx- Xceristy

Other titles include Flowing Water, Underneath, Day & Night, The Oceans, Time Zones, Ecosystem, Agriculture, Off the Edge, Unbalanced, The Weather, History, The Economy, Cultures, and The Planets.

Students should respond to the question from the perspective of what the earth would be like if it were flat. Students can respond using a technology device, a notebook, or the template provided.

Some task cards will require some deeper thinking than others. It is important that students incorporate some factual information with their responses rather than just guess. Please see the example provided for an idea of how a student could respond.
