Students will read the poem, "The Echoing Green." With guidance they will analyze the structure of the poem: rhyme scheme, stanza, meter, and rhythm. They will use writing and drawings to depict diction, tone, mood, and theme. They will create visual representations of the poem, write original poems with similar structure, then have classmates create visual representations of their poems. In this lesson I would take advantage of the opportunity to help my fourth and fifth graders begin to recognize symbolism.
