This is a great inquiry exercise that requires students to use their computation skills (fractions, decimals, and whole numbers) to conclude the effects of multiplying and dividing by numbers between 0 and 1. The main purpose of this activity is to help students understand that multiplying doesn't always mean to get bigger; and dividing doesn't always mean to get smaller.
Students will work through 8 multiplication and division problems. They will then use this work to prove the effects of multiplication and division. There is also a real-life application component included in the conclusion.
