The Egypt Game written by Zilpha Keatley Snyder is a Newbery Honor book. The book is a contemporary mystery novel. Comprehension skills that can be covered by using this book are: using similes, metaphors and idioms, making generalizations, sequencing events, identifying problem and solution, and characterization. This unit divides the book into five sections. Each section has a list of vocabulary words with the definition as used in the book. A quiz which tests the students knowledge of the vocabulary words and comprehension questions about the section are included. Section quizzes and the final test are given in both a regular format and a modified format. The modified test (Form M) breaks the vocabulary list into smaller units and gives the page number as reference for the comprehension questions. The final test is modified by eliminating one of the choices in a multiple choice question, the qualifying statement in the true-false questions is underlined, and the lists for the matching sections are broken into smaller units. A modified test may be used by students who require accommodations or modifications to tests. Answer keys are provided in the same format to facilitate easier grading.
