This activity packet contains everything you need to teach the Presidential election of 1860 – a pivotal event in the history of the United States. Why were there two candidates from the Democratic Party? How did Northern and Southern ballots differ? What did the issue of slavery have to do with the election?
After a brief review of key terms and a Think-Pair-Share activity on the split of the Democratic Party, your students will be introduced to each candidate's platform. In the assessment portion of this product, students will create a campaign poster for their assigned candidate.
