This EDITABLE collection includes my original worksheets used along with the separately purchased novel, the audio-version of the novel and the movie in DVD format. There is a ton of information available on-line about the author and the film, which I've used as well, but cannot include here. My method of presenting the novel and film using these worksheets and formats is described for you on the cover page. My high school age reluctant readers were usually pretty responsive to this structure, once they got used to it. I kept my classes moving through the information at a steady pace, and working through the assignments together as a class, with no homework assigned. I incorporated the book, "“The True History of the Elephant Man: The Definitive Account of the Tragic and Extraordinary Life of Joseph Carey Merrick” by M.Howell and P.Ford and the accompanying audio-book, as well as the remarkable 1980 film, "The Elephant Man". Included is a worksheet used to stress the idea of "looking past the surface" in our relationships with others. One of my favorite tools in this unit is the youtube video of a forensics analysis of what Joseph Merrick may have looked like had he lived without his disease. Lots of thought provoking reading material and medical vocabulary in this unit. Please feel free to modify my work to fit your needs, however, please do not share or sell my ideas. Questions, Comments and Ratings are welcome!
