Teaching your class about photosynthesis and cellular respiration? This is a GREAT visual activity where students can actually SEE evidence of the two processes happening!
First, have several student volunteers blow bubbles through a straw into a cup of water and BTB. Students will see the cup change from blue to green to yellow as they add carbon dioxide. Students will record their Day 1 data. Next, add aquatic plants into the cups over night.
On Day 2, students will observe that the water color has changed back to blue as the aquatic plant produces oxygen through photosynthesis. Students then record and graph their results!
Great Activity! Additional materials include:
1. Aquatic Plants
2. BTB solution
4. Plastic Cups
