PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The complete text of the Emancipation Proclamation, issued by President Abraham Lincoln on 1 January 1863 in the midst of the Civil War. The Emancipation Proclamation declared that slaves in states that had seceded from the Union were freed. The proclamation made the abolition of slavery and the freeing of slaves a central purpose of the Union's efforts in the Civil War.

The handout is designed with classroom needs in mind. The text is set in easy-to-read, 11-point type. Lines are numbered for easy reference in classroom discussion. Lines on the right side of the page provide space for the reader to take notes. (These lines use the same spacing as college-ruled notepaper.) The document's title as well as country and year of publication are clearly indicated. The handout is optimized for black-and-white printing and to save printer/photocopier ink/toner to reduce your printing costs. The handout is also just two pages — perfect for front-back printing!
