The Emoji Wall helps students develop the skill of identifying and regulating their emotions. Students are given a safe space to choose the appropriate emoji (emotion) that reflects how they are feeling in that moment. Through community circles, at the beginning or end of the class, students are given an opportunity to have a discussion about what they are feeling and why they are feeling that way. It is also a great way to help them be seen for who they are and accepted for how they feel.

Imagine Tommy walking into the classroom appearing to be upset. He walks over to the Emoji basket, grabs an "Angry Emoji", places it on the wall and then places his name underneath. During community circle, another student says to Tommy, "Tommy, why did you choose the "Angry Emoji?". Tommy expresses that "At recess, someone hit me while I was playing soccer and I did not like that". This becomes an awesome opportunity to discuss conflict resolution, how to deal with anger and much more.
