This is an original play based on two traditional Chinese Tales. The two stories are tied together by a narrator, the Emperor, who is telling his granddaughter a bedtime story (or two).
The first tale is a fable in the vein of Aesop, where a dispute is settled by a wise ruler who plays a trick on the villagers in order to restore what has been lost.
The second is based on a Chinese fairy tale similar to Beauty and the Beast.
