These are my notes on the end of Reconstruction.
These notes cover the following information: scalawags, carpetbaggers, Ku Klux Klan, sharecropping, Rutherford B. Hayes, Compromise of 1877, Home Rule, redeemers, the Solid South, Jim Crow Laws, poll taxes, literacy tests, and grandfather clauses.
How do you use this product? I make copies of the notes and distribute them to the students. I then pass out the questions that go with the notes. The students must read the notes in order to answer the questions. You can also upload the notes and questions onto your Canvas or teaching web page.
After the students finish answering the questions, I go over the lesson with a PowerPoint presentation.
You can buy the PowerPoint that goes with these notes here:
You can modify the notes to your own needs. If you want to add something, you can. If you want to take something out, you can. The work is doable and the students will learn.
This work has been used in my classroom for 15 years and is ready for you to take straight to the copier.
