This 16-slide power point presentation introduces students to the major events that lead to the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union. It is designed to be used as the final part of a four-part Cold War Series of lecture notes that are available on TpT (also including the Cold War Overview, , The Cold War Events, and The Korean and Vietnam Wars). This particular power point begins with the fears of nuclear war in the United States (including a link to the "Duck and Cover" video) and continues by covering the détente period of the 1970s, the proxy wars in places such as Afghanistan during the 1980s, the policies of Perestroika and Glasnost, and concludes with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union. The power point would be appropriate to use in either a World or US history class. Be sure to search for the other Cold War presentations and skeleton outline notes available on TpT that students can complete as you provide the lectures.
