PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This assessment was created to assess both nonnative speakers of the English language and low level secondary readers in the area of homophones—words that sound the same but have different meanings. It can be used as (1) a pre-assessment to gauge students’ strengths and weakness (i.e. which words they understand the difference between and which ones are they struggling to differentiate), (2) an exercise sheet or class activity for an EFL/ESL class, or (3) a post-assessment to a mini-unit on homophones. Personally, I have used this assessment multiple times in a variety of different ways in my reading class with ESL students and in my Sophomore English class with struggling readers.
