This paper assignment allows you to differentiate for your students to inspire a broad discussion on the Enlightenment and revolution.
Students are asked to explain how the Enlightenment led to various specific revolutions. Each student will be tasked with researching a different revolution (12 different revolutions in all -- but you can add/remove whichever you want). This allows for students who are in need of a higher challenge to research and discuss less known revolutions (like those in Haiti or Cuba). The assignment sheet includes tips and examples for strong thesis development and source usage.
The file includes 12 assignment sheets (each sheet addresses one revolution), a self-evaluation, a student rubric (to use for self-assessment), and a teacher rubric (to use in grading).
I like to have students share their thesis statements and research/sources on the day the paper is due to encourage evidence/source based discussion.
