Activities for a beginning of kindergarten unit based on the book The Enormous Watermelon by Brenda Parkes. In the story, the nursery rhyme characters work together to pull up an ENORMOUS watermelon. This unit includes:
â€¢ A Humpty Dumpty name practice page. The students write their name 3 times so that it is inserted into the rhyme "Humpty Dumpty. On the second page, the children can draw themselves on Humpty's wall, or the teacher can take a picture of them to cut and paste onto the wall.
â€¢ A Jack and Jill rhyming page
â€¢ A watermelon counting page. Students draw the correct number of seeds on each watermelon.
â€¢ Enormous Watermelon treasure hunt/tour of the school cards. Students follow clues to visit, the office, the lunchroom, the bathrooms, lost and found, the nurse, and the library.
â€¢ An Enormous Watermelon fill in the blank book. The children add a descriptive word for their watermelon, and add a friend's name.
â€¢ Directions for a simple cut and paste watermelon geometry and art project.
â€¢ Letter search using text from the book The Enormous Watermelon.
