This is a cooperative group project where students pretend to be Colonists writing a newspaper on the day the Declaration of Independence is signed. Their banner article is about the Declaration, while the other articles are about the events leading up to that day. The file contains teacher directions, student directions, an example of a newspaper layout, a checklist to keep students on track, a grading sheet for you, and examples of student work. It is a great culminating activity for demonstrating an understanding of the events leading up to the American Revolution. It is also one of my favorites for Open House. I have done this project both with a GATE class, and with a regular class.
