PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This project was requested by a fourth grade teaching friend of mine. She wanted a fun open-ended project that would involve addition of money with mixed dollar/cents amounts.

This Christmas Mary is decorating her very first Christmas tree. All her relatives have given her money to buy decorations and she has the grand total of $50 to spend. Mary needs some help to choose decorations and make sure she stays under budget.

Open-ended math projects are great for cooperative work and for critical thinking. They help children apply concepts to real life situations and make math meaningful. My class loves these projects and we hope you do too.
