Character Charts

The charts require the student to identify evidence from the text to give a description of the character. identify and support the characters' specific traits, and identify quotes that are supportive of the character's personality. The students are asked to provide specific evidence from the text to support their answers.

1 Terms and Definitions Chart
The students will define the following terms:
Static Character
Dynamic Character
Round Character
Flat Character
Indirect Characterization
Direct Characterization

1 Characterization Chart
Using the terms from the previous page, the students will assign the terms to each character from the novel. They will then write a brief defense on why they chose the terms for each specific character.

The assignment is very versatile. I have used it as a group project and as an individual project. I have also used it as a more heavily weighted assessment. usually assign it at the beginning of the novel and have the students complete it as they read the novel. I usually give my students three days to complete the material, but you can use more or less time as needed. It is very easy to tailor this assignment to meet your classroom needs
