Product Description

This set of drama circle cards teaches students about the Famous Five-Louise McKinney, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Emily Murphy, Irene Parlby and Nellie McClung. They were a group of women who challenged Canadian law and had women declared persons in the famous Persons Case of 1929.

Included in this product are directions on how to run a drama circle, a set of 40 cards (in colour and ink-saving) and a set of discussion questions to do after the drama activity. Please see the preview for a general idea of the reading difficulty for each card.

This activity aligns with:

  • Alberta Program of Studies most Division 2 and 3
  • It is broad enough to be used to support any lesson about historic women, the women's movement in Canada, Women's History Month or International Women's Day.

It has been classroom tested with students in grades four and five with success, but it does contain a reading level for Grade 4+, so be sure you know your students well. Cards contain different amounts of text, so you can differentiate for your students.
