Product Description
This project allows students to demonstrate their knowledge and mastery of theme and characterization, specifically in the high-interest novel The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This assignment gives your students the chance to go deeper in their analyzing of the novel's central themes by creating a Found Poem using quotes and phrases from the novel.

This is an incredible, creative project that can also be used as a unique, creative final assessment.

This assignment, most importantly, builds students higher-level critical thinking skills. Not only must the students find quotes and phrases from the text that showcase a certain theme, but in the Quotation Analysis Worksheet, they must state WHY the quote is needed to promote their chosen theme (i.e. Claim, Evidence, and Analysis).

Finally, this 5 page PDF contains a title page that defines a Found Poem and includes student examples. Also included in this PDF is an assignment details page with specific Common Core Standards that align to this project, a higher-level skill-based grading rubric for easy grading, an easy-to-follow poem outline that requires students to use MLA In-text Citation when quoting the text, and, finally, a Quotation Analysis worksheet that requires students to state WHY the quotes are important to promoting their chosen themes.

I hope you enjoy this creative writing project!
