In this collaborative activity, your class will read the novel “The Fighting Ground” in a day! Each group of your students will be responsible for reading and reporting on one section of the novel. They will need to stretch their brains as they make inferences about plot, characters, theme, and setting as they read.
After each group has read and discussed the assigned section, the class comes together to retell the story start-to-finish. Students’ questions about plot, characters, theme, and connections drive the high-quality discussion that takes place during sharing.
This activity is a great wrap-up to a Revolutionary War unit in ELA or Social Studies, and offers practice with many Literature standards as well as Speaking and Listening standards.
