The First Thanksgiving: Fiction and Non-Fiction Fun is a mini-unit that will help students learn about the First Thanksgiving. Students will read, write, and talk about fiction and non-fiction passages. The unit ends with a choice of culminating activities that will require your students to use higher-level thinking skills. It includes a non-fiction passage and can be used with any Thanksgiving fiction book or story.
Day by Day directions, includes Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary, 2 discussion questions, and essential question, text coding, directed note-taking, and a culminating activity choice list
2 levels of Literature Circle forms to allow for differentiation, along with teacher directions
Non-fiction passage in color for display
Non-Fiction passage in B & W for printing
20 Printables for all components of the unit
This unit is designed for primary readers. The text and activities are not intended to be done independently by students, but with guidance and support from the teacher. (Stronger readers may be able to complete rereads of the non-fiction text independently.)
NOTE: This unit does not contain a fiction story. You will need a Thanksgiving Fiction book if you choose to do the Literature Circles. This can be completed without the Literature Circles if you prefer to focus just on the Non-Fiction.
