Wow! 125 pages of informational passages, posters, photographs, activities, projects, art integration, graphic organizers, craftivity templates and so much more to choose from! Part of A Trees and Forests Study or All About Trees.
This unit includes everything you ever needed (or wanted) to know about the life of an oak tree from the tiny acorn to the mature oak tree and the life that one oak tree can sustain in the forest.
This unit includes ALL the stages of the life cycle of the oak tree with each section consisting of background reading passages, posters, photographs and choices of projects or activities for the students to demonstrate their understanding of each the stages. Dispersal, Acorn Seed, Germination, Seedling, Sapling and Mature Oak Tree are all covered.
From: labelling the parts of the oak tree and discovering the variety of species found within the oak family (in Canada and the US); to observing and labelling the parts of the acorn; to observing the inside of an acorn; to learning about the type of germination process and making spinners; to learning ALL about photosynthesis and the chemical reaction that takes place (posters, puzzles, M&M activity and interactive notebook pages as activity choices). Pollination and fertilization of the oak tree are examined with photographs showing the catkins and female flowers (which are so tiny in real life, the are difficult to even see!).
Art is integrated with examining Georgia O'Keeffe's Oak Leaves paintings and creating our own O'Keeffe inspired oak leaf project (modified lesson plan included ~ full lesson plan to be published separately soon).
The life cycle is brought all together through creating a mini book, a bulletin board display and through both Explanatory and Procedural Writing Projects.
The writing projects include all the graphic organizers, posters and writing tool pages needed to plan and draft amazing Explanatory and Procedural (how to) writings. Shape books, posters, themed essay pages and an oak tree craftivity are provided with templates and examples to use.
The oak tree is a fascinating study as there is so much life that is sustained because of this tree.
This was a very motivating unit that the children really enjoyed!
Please note: The preview file does not show all the pages that are included, posters or the templates for the oak tree craftivity but be assured that the templates are all included when you download the purchased file :o)
