Product Description

These fun pages review understanding the concepts of the four basic operations in math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. When it comes to word problems, students have to be able to figure out which operation to use. Mastery of this comes from reading comprehension in a math setting and understanding the operations.

Including cut-and-paste activities, a game, a flowchart resource, and a poster making activity, these pages will engage your students until the very end. There are multiple choice worksheets as well, which will help prepare students for standardized tests.

Because it takes the pressure off calculating, this is great for students in your class that have not yet mastered their facts as it lets them still learn the necessary prerequisite skills for word problems. It does not need to be completed in order, although it does get slightly more developed as it continues. Each sheet can be completed independently by a student, except the game which says Teacher's Manual. The flowchart resource is a great personal or classroom resource, and students can even use it as a template to make their own.

One reason I made these was because I couldn't find any foundational skills except sheets on keywords. I needed something more for when there are no keywords. Therefore, the most challenging part of this may be that they have not been introduced to the operations and word problems in this format. Again, these pages ensure that students can ask themselves the right questions to figure out which operations to use in word problems. It really breaks down each skill and builds a strong foundation for solving word problems in math.

As you already know, addition and multiplication find a total. Multiplication can only be used if there are equal-sized groups. Subtraction and division start with the total. Division can only be used if there are equal-sized groups.

These sheets are intended for educational purposes in one classroom only.
