This Reader's Theater is for three students. This is based on the fairy tale by the same name. In the script, a princess loses her ball. It falls into the pool and is too deep for her to get it out. A frog agrees to get the ball if the princess will let him come back home with her. She has to promise to let him sit by her at dinner, eat by her, and sleep on a pillow by her. The princess agrees but doesn’t intend to keep her promise until the frog shows up. Her father is honest and tells her she must follow through. After 3 days of taking care of the frog, he turns into a handsome prince. They fall in love and live happily ever after. There is a writing assignment on the last page for the students to respond to. Be aware that 3rd graders may need some help with the vocabulary. I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice in and less off task behaviors take place. You will also notice that my scripts are in black and white except the occasional picture on the front. I do this to help save on ink. My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and, if your students enjoy this script, look for more fairy tales and twisted tales at my site. I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. Let me know how things go!
