Product Description
A fantastic teaching resource for teaching about the fungi! There are great real-life connections to make in the study of yeast, molds, and mushrooms. To start, this packet comes with graphic notes and document camera images appropriate for middle school or general biology students. These can be printed one time and stored in a folder until next year. Students can discover which nutrients are needed by yeast in a hands-on activity that uses kitchen powders. The procedure is completely described and the result tables are provided. These can be a stand-alone assignment or incorporated into a laboratory notebook. A question sheet is provided for students to complete afterwards.

Also described are visual directions to make spore prints and how to preserve them so that they may be incorporated into posters. A grading scheme for this poster is provided. Another activity describes how to grow bread molds in ziplock bags. Students love to wipe the floor with a piece of bread and see the gross things that will grow on it! An observation chart for the long-term experiment is provided. A comparative table and Venn diagram are also included in this packet; either one makes for a good homework assignment.

Your students can practice their reading comprehension skills by reading the engaging article about the accidental discovery of penicillin. Open-ended and multiple choice questions are provided in assessments that follow the article. There is also an additional open-ended question sheet about the three fungi. Finally, a 10 question quiz and answer key are included.
