This is a game I created for teaching the Fur Trade to middle years students. It serves as an acquiring and applying group activity in the form of a simulation.
Basic Concept Overview: Students are divided into groups and given a role as an Aboriginal Trapper or a European Merchant. Each group is placed at a location (as shown on their map) and given the appropriate activity sheets. Aboriginal Trappers must travel around the map (visiting fur trading posts) to acquire the European items they need to survive. All trades must be done using pelts. Therefore, Aboriginal trappers may gain more pelts to trade by traveling to hunting grounds. European Merchants are located at specific trading posts and are required to set fair prices for their goods and negotiate trades with the Aboriginal Trappers. This is a trading game with the goal for merchants to sell their store inventory and become the richest with pelts while the Aboriginal trappers goal is to gain all the items they need to survive.
