This is an educational financial literacy unit to teach students how to balance a budget and write checks. In addition to that, the students learn about income, how to fill out a W2 as well as the pros and cons involved with credit cards vs debit cards.
Students work in pairs to work out bills for a fictional family that is all created though-out the game. Students learn how to become financially stable and ways to get out of debt real quick. After the bills have been set, the students will complete an entire calendar year where each day is a month in the lives of the fictional families they have created. In the game, the setting is in the 1980s and 90s- before there was digital banking, so all bills are written with checks, and the students even keep an OG checkbook balance sheet.
Part 1 is the introduction day, as well as the 2-3 planning involved building up to the project.
Included in your download are: Overview, Questionnaire student sheet, Introduction Powerpoint, PBL scoring rubric, Teacher directions and ready to copy and paste lesson plans.
