This is a 16 page workbook to accompany the story "The Garden of Abdul Gasazi" by Chris Van Allsburg. Skills covered include: author's purpose, context clues, compound words, punctuation and quotation marks, syllables, multiple meaning words, fact/opinion, parts of speech, synonyms/antonyms, true/false, singular and plural nouns, homophones, verb tense, vocabulary, making connections, subject/predicate, reference materials, possessives, alphabetical order, spelling, identifying narrator, sentence types, genre, guide words, contractions, prefixes and suffixes, sequencing, reality/fantasy, alternate endings, best word order, making predictions, drawing conclusions, proper nouns, generalizations and supporting details, character,setting,problem and solution, and cause and effect. This has been an invaluable tool in covering state standards and helping my school's 3rd grade students with comprehension and numerous language arts skills. The page numbers referenced in this workbook correspond to the story in the Houghton MifflinÂ® Anthology "Rewards" from their California Reading program. If you are using another version of "The Garden of Abdul Gasazi", this will still be useful to you, but you may have to modify a few things.
