I used this project to accompany our novel study of "The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn" by Dorothy and Thomas Hobbler. Before reading the book, the students spent one day learning about the ancient Japanese Samurai. Samurais play a large role in this novel. Students really enjoy being able to teach others about the Samurai using this project.
You are given two options. For students who don't have computer and internet access, there is a paper option. The other option and main project is to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create a digital children's book to present to the class. Students may chose to either write a fiction or nonfiction, informative book. Their target audience are grades K-3. I have attached a common core aligned rubric to accompany this project.
