Included in this product:
1. overview and teacher tips
2. ready-to-use, 34 page master for printing student booklets
3. answer key (16 pages)
4. vocabulary lists to go with each assignment

Before-Reading Vocabulary Lists for Teacher Use: I have included lists of challenging words that appear in each reading assignment for those teachers who like to have lists available to use with their own activities. There are also vocabulary activities in the Student Booklets.
Student Booklet Master: the student booklet divides the text into seven reading assignments (each consisting of 40-50 pages of text). Each assignment includes 4 pages of tasks and activities designed to go with the reading. All pages appear in black and white to honor tight school budgets (there is an optional colored cover included as well). The pages provide directions/lessons that should enable students to work independently. Depending on length and number of class periods, it is expected that most students will need a week to complete each reading assignment along with the accompanying activities. Assignments could be given as homework depending on the needs of the students and teachers.
Reading and writing skills/crafts that are addressed in the student booklet include:
interpreting figurative language (simile, pun, idiom, hyperbole, personification, analogy, allusion)
creating a summary
providing evidence from the text
understanding unusual expressions
compare and contrast characters
The GHOSTS of TUPELO LANDING in a nutshell:
This is the exciting sequel to THREE TIMES LUCKY, by Sheila Turnage (which was a 2013 Newbery Honor book, New York Times bestseller, Edgar Award for Mystery Finalist, E.B. White Read-Aloud Honor book, Keystone State Reading Association Book Award, and on the Washington Post's Best Kids Books List for 2014). And, it promises to be just as well-received by students who love a good mystery and who can't wait to find out what Mo and Dale will do to solve it. Already it has received recognition as: a Junior Library Guild Selection, the SIBA “Okra Pick” for best Southern-flavored literature, a “Most Anticipated Children’s and Teens Book of 2014” according to Bookpage, and it has been given starred reviews by Publishers Weekly, Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal . Wow!
After putting her foot in her mouth by telling the class that she and Dale will interview a ghost as part of their assignment, Mo is determined not to fail. So, once again Mo and Dale use their "world famous" Desperado Detective Agency to help them solve the old inn's spooky and puzzling ghost mystery: who is haunting it and why?
And, once again the reader is treated to Sheila Turnage's delightfully rich and descriptive writing! The book is chock-full of colorful expressions, vivid adjectives, and energetic verbs. This is truly a treat to read and a book not to be missed.
Appropriate for students in grades 5-8. Reading level approximately 6th grade.
