Supporting Inuit Literature in the Classroom
The Giant Bear
is an exciting traditional Inuit folktale retold by Jose Angutinngurniq and illustrated by Eva Widermann. It’s an excellent story supporting an Inuit theme or focus, as it draws students into the excitement and suspense of Inuit traditional stories.
This unit was created to support a single read-aloud book.
Comprehension strategies used in this unit are: Problem and Solution, Connection and Visualization, Summarizing, Compare and Contrast, Alternative Endings, Retell as a Comic and Exploring other Creature in Traditional Stories
