"The Gift of the Magi" and "The Necklace" are two stories with a lot in common, and a lot of differences as well. This unit is designed to help students uncover those as they come up with an overall theme that covers them both. Students will need to do close reading, critical thinking, collaboration, speaking, listening, and writing. It's a great unit to work on many language arts skills -- and to teach your students valuable lessons about love and sacrifice as well.

In this package you will find:

--Instructions and information for the teacher

--Copies of the stories for students, designed for close reading notes

--A slide show for reflective writing and to guide your class activities

--Handouts to guide student note-taking

--Learning Stations to help them dig deeper in their analysis

--A group activity to get them to focus on theme

--A selection of assignments

--Editable rubrics
