The Girl Who Drank the Moon, a fantasy by Kelly Barnhill
Journal Writing Questions
This product is designed to be used individually by students as they read this book (although the questions can also be used for whole-or small-group discussion). They should have a journal (or a portion of their journal) devoted to the responses they will write as they read this book.
Students first read the Before You Read information and respond to the prompt in their journal. As they read each chapter of the book, they respond to the accompanying prompt.
The questions and prompts do not necessarily have a “correct” answer but are designed to encourage readers to think about the content they just read. There is an answer key with this product, however, the responses are brief. Students are asked to create more thoughtful responses to the questions.
Here are samples of the type of writing prompt/questions students will respond to:
Chapter 4: Pages 28-29
In Which It Was Just a Dream
What does this chapter tell us about what people think of the witch? What do we now know about her?
Chapter 5: Pages 30-39
In Which a Swamp Monster Accidentally Falls in Love
Why do you think Glerk did not want to fall in love with the baby? Do you think he fell in love with it anyway? Explain your answer.
Note that the preview is comprised of the information shown above.
