Pg. 3-5 Vocabulary in Context – copy pages A and B back to back, fold on the solid lines and cut on the dotted lines – read the vocabulary word and its definition – lift the flap and use it in a sentence and illustrate it
Pg. 6 Use It! – use your vocabulary words in a short story/paragraph
Pg. 7-8 Spelling Art! – copy pages A and B back to back – roll the dice to see what color to use to write each spelling word
Pg. 9-11 My Comprehension Flip It! – copy pages A and B back to back, fold on the solid line and cut on the dotted lines – flip up the questions to write your answers and illustrate on the back
Pg. 12-14 Making Comparisons – copy pages A and B back to back – fold on the solid line and cut on the dotted lines – lift each flap and write 2 sentences to show how to use each suffix and each comparison word in a sentence
Pg. 15-22 Story Structure Web – cut out and glue the half web onto the bottom of the full web to create a pocket – copy the setting pages A and B back to back and the character pages C and D back to back – there are enough setting and character pages for 4 students per page – cut the plot page on the lines and staple at the top for each student- fill out the information on the spider cards and place them in your web
Pg. 23-27 Greek and Latin Roots! Mobile – copy off all patterns onto the various colored construction paper, write words with example of each root onto the white circular papers – glue these circular papers onto the back of the spiders, cut out the spider legs, accordion fold them and glue onto the spiders, add the inner white rectangular box to both sides of the large colored rectangular box, add the eyes to the spiders, the students can mix and match their spider colors just make sure they get one of each root and that you copy the spiders onto light colors - punch holes and add white yarn – hang up –see example
Pg. 28-29 Spider Cinquain – write a cinquain poem about a spider, a page to practice on and a page to put your final copy on
Pg. 30-36 Cool or Creepy – opinion writing and craft project – Do you think spiders are cool or creepy – why? - copy patterns off on to the various colored construction paper – put together as seen in the example
Pg. 37-51 Spider Report – copy off top and back cover onto black, attach legs to back cover, attach eyes to the front cover – copy off all the report pages – staple them on the top of the circle before cutting out – you can not cut them all out at once carefully, draw or print off a picture of your spider, fill in information – there is an answer sheet for the teacher- staple the report between the covers at the top
