This fun and straightforward project is meant to be used with O. T. Nelson’s The Girl Who Owned a City. For this project, students are asked to put themselves in Lisa’s shoes to make decisions about how they would run their own city in a similar situation. Students are first asked to reflect on how Lisa dealt with certain life issues, then they’re asked to explain how they would handle similar decisions. These decisions revolve around food, shelter, living conditions, travel, rules, safety, and defense.
I’ve included 4 rubrics. Two with different point values, one without point values (so you can put in your own before making copies), and one that is blank in case you’d like to grade different tasks than what I used in my own classroom.
*This project is FLEXIBLE! Feel free to take out pages you don’t want students to use or add your own!
