This unit based on story, The Girl and the Wolf, written by Katherena Vermette and illustrated by Julie Flett, uses the reading strategies:
Prediction, Infer, Summarizing, Visualization, Character Development, Connection, Problem and Solution, Compare and Contrast, Alternative Ending, Retell and Real Life Applications.
This unit is developed to support a single read aloud copy. There is zero prep needed (other than photocopying) and has 10 different activities (2 weeks worth) to support the story.
While the story is simplistic, it is still very enchanting with real life applications. The activity sheets that support it are perfect for students between Grades 1 and 3 and could be used to guide discussions for kindergartens.
Other Unit Suggestions:
To obtain a copy of this book and others like it, I recommend checking out Strong Nations, an online bookstore supplying indigenous books. Not only do they have an extensive selection, they provide themed book bundles for all age ranges.
