The Giver Activities Bundle is compilation of resources to aid in during and after instruction of The Giver by Lois Lowry. The following products are included in the bundle:
• The Giver Graphic Organizer and QuickWrites
The Giver Organizer and QuickWrites is a handout/worksheet that allows students to track the various systems in Jonas’s Community while reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. Students will record effective and ineffective elements of the various systems in their Community. Two QuickWrite writing activities at the end enable teachers to access student understanding and writing ability and comes with a suggested rubric.
• The Giver Written Reflection
The Giver Written Reflection is a short essay prompt that has students synthesize what they’ve learned about Jonas’s Community in The Giver by Lois Lowry. Students will evaluate the overall effectiveness of Jonas’s Community. Suggested rubric is attached. (Can be used as an assessment with my other listing: The Giver Graphic Organizer and Quickwrites)
• The Giver Assessment Options
The Giver Assessment Options is a 4 option assessment assignment based on RAFTS that allows students to show their understanding of the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry in different ways. RAFTS stands for:
R – Role
A – Audience
F – Format
T – Topic
S – Strong verb
Students have the option of creating an advertisement, speech, comic strip, or interview. Main content standards addressed are included.
• The Giver Alternate Ending
The Giver Alternate Ending is an essay prompt for students to respond to at the conclusion of reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. The prompt has students consider what Lois Lowry said about the ending of the novel in her Newbery Award Acceptance Speech while analyzing overall character arcs and motivation. Suggested rubric attached.
• The Giver Final Test
The Giver Final Test is a 25 question selected response test intended to be administered at the end of reading the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry. There is also an answer key attached.
