UPDATED! Again! I've made some clarifications to this, but otherwise, it's still the same great project! This is a fun group project for use with The Giver Unit. There is a modified version included in my The Giver Unit Pack
, but this is an expanded version.
THIS version now includes project requirements, a brainstorm graphic organizer for the group, and follow-up critical thinking questions for students to analyze the true meaning/implications of a utopia.
The project is done in class, and you will need some butcher paper for each group, as well as crayons, markers, etc. Groups have to decide if their Utopia will have Education, Government, what kind of families, environment, rules and laws, and decide what it will look like.
It's also an interesting opportunity to show the students that a utopia is nearly impossible to dream up because everyone has different ideas about what constitutes a perfect world.
