Product Description
This product is a project graphic organizer to be used with the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry.

The Giver is about... Jonas's world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear of pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. When Jonas turns 12 he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

Included is a project for students to create their own society. While reading the novel, many students were outraged at the numerous rules and regulation in the Community that kept everything running so perfectly. This project allows students the creativity to develop their own society including a name, location, government, currency, etc. It provides students the opportunity to write as well as become creative through drawing or other means of technology. Students are also asked to compare and contrast their society with The Giver.

Students are expected to write eight paragraphs on the different features of society (which is broken down nicely in the graphic organizer), they also need to develop a map of the land and show what the buildings/homes would look like in some artistic format. I then had students put their information into a Powerpoint presentation which is great to then invite administration in to show off the learning in your classroom!
