Is Jonas's father guilty of murder? It's a question our students always debate, and now, your students can, too, with our Giver Mock Trial product.
Close out your Giver unit with an engaging, detail-driven mock trial! Students will practice argumentative essay skills through exploratory role-pay. It's a win-win: less papers for you to grade AND a high-interest method for your students to collaborate and practice thought-development and essay structure. Students will identify claims and reasons, address counterclaims, cite strong and relevant textual evidence, summarize in opening/closing statements, and analyze characterization (personality, bias, beliefs) and plot details.
This was truly our students' favorite activity of the year! Every student was involved. Every student was invested, even in a class of 30. It will likely take your students 2-3 days to prepare for the trial and 2 days to actually perform the trial, but we promise, each of those days was worth it.
Our trial (which is in a WinZip file) includes:
-A printing guide
-Suggested grouping strategies
-Instruction guide for teacher

-Video instruction links (YouTube) that thoroughly explain each task for students
-GUIDED lawyer graphic organizers
