Explore the idea of Utopian societies with this fun activity that students will revisit and revise as they read the text.
Before reading introduce the concept of a Utopian society. Assign students into "community" groups, and allow each group come up with a community name. Students will determine the "policies and procedures" for each category. Each category sheet include questions to guide students thinking. Instruct groups to use pencil only.
During reading revisit the booklet several times so that students can revise the policies and procedures of their communities. I always do a lesson or discussion on the amendments that we make to our own constitution to adapt to the ever-changing society.
After reading students can complete the reflection pages at the end of the booklet.
***Assembly: Instructions for assembly are included. It does take some time to assemble the booklets, but I believe it's a worthy use of my time or my students time because my students get so much from it. This year I assembled the booklets myself, but I've also had students assemble them in the past. It all depends on what's best for you and your students.
Items required to assemble:
This packet contains all the printables needed for the booklet, however you will also need construction paper (1 sheet per booklet), and a stapler to secure the binding.
This packet is non-editable. However, I did not include page numbers so that you can rearrange or leave out categories.
The categories included are:
-Law & Law Enforcement
-Front cover sheet
-Back cover sheet
-Example photos of assembly steps
-Black & White Set
