Literature Circle specifically designed for The Giver by Lois Lowry. Designed for groups of six students. This resource was designed to be no-nonsense and more mature for upper elementary school and middle school students. Literature Circles are a student run, differentiated, and fun way to study the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry. This Literature Circle is special because it is not generic, but is specifically designed for The Giver by Lois Lowry. This Literature Circle is also special because it is pre-arranged for the teacher into assigned and rotating readings and roles.

Resource includes:
- Six pre-arranged packets with rotating roles and assigned reading
o Packets are assembled already for the teacher! These packets break the novel up into six very readable sections. Students read the same chapters at the same time, however the roles are specifically geared towards the assigned reading and roles rotate.
o “Respondent” role consists of three prompts for the assigned reading specifically written for The Giver. These questions aim to promote critical thinking.
o “Thematic Connector” role guides students through Themes and Universal Themes throughout the novel.
o “Vocabularian” role provides students with flash cards for student selected words.
o “Vocabulary Flash Card” page provides a space for students to keep and organize flash cards received from group members.
o “Discussion Director” role asks students to create three of their own questions linked to assigned reading.
o “Artist” role requires students to creatively express the idea of “sameness” from The Giver.
o “Summarizer” role has students summarize the assigned reading chapters in a “First, Then, Finally” format.
o “Role and Due Date” page is a color coordinated resource designed to help students stay on-task and organized. The slips indicate due dates and roles associated with due dates. Each packet contains a “Role and Due Date” page which specifically corresponds to that packet.
- “Teacher’s Notes” with explanation of roles, packets, and directions for the teacher.
- “Common Core Connection” provides rational on how to connect Literature Circles to the Common Core State Standards. Also, provides interest levels and reading levels for The Giver by Lois Lowry.
- One blank packet is also included for teachers who wish to organize packets and assign reading themselves.

Literature Circles are a wonderful, differentiate, and fun way for students to study literature!!!
